My mother has tossed me out of the house and I sat at the corner of Kesington and Allegheny and put out my thumb. What a blast, I was hooked on road trips ever since. Traveling the U.S by car is my favorite mode of travel. Though I have become a little more settled in the last twenty years staying in one place for years at a time, I still venture from state to state in road trip fashion.

Six months ago I sold nearly everything I owned, piled the few belongings I had left into my 1996 Monte Carlo, left the Kansas City Metro and headed for San Diego California which is roughly 1,800 miles. I love being on the road, seeing new sites, feeling the history and culture of the different areas. I pack food and water, no eating at fast foods.

Traveling with my little dog, I stop at roadside rest areas for a walk and stretch our legs. As well as taking in the sites it is amusing to watch the people on the road, how far they have traveled, why and where they are going. Sometimes I start up a conversation and even exchange addresses, making new friends along the way.

I guess I am sort of a vagabond. I am at my best on the road. It is like home to me. I stop to take pictures of landmarks and snap pics through the windshield when I do not want to stop. I made a three day road trip out of this one, stopped to visit a relative in the desert of Arizona and stayed at the smallest motel in the west (4 rooms). It was a beautiful setting nestled in the mountains. Looked like something out of a western movie with the architecture and various cactus and rock lawns.

A funny story I have to share from the trip. Being desert there was no grass anywhere to be found. Every thing is rock. Taking my little dog Ellie out to go potty was so hilarious. She walked all over, running in circles, moaning and whimpering and looking so bewildered. At first it did not hit me what the matter was and then I realized she was looking for grass. She was getting so frantic. Finally, my nephew lifted her and placed her in an area around a cactus that had some artificial plants surrounding it and she was able to relieve herself. I wished I had filmed it for one of the funniest videos shows.

Have you taken any road trips? Have you a memorable experience from one you would like to share?

Should have ask to see the carfax!

Here in the US, when buying a used car you can now ask to see what is called the "carfax". A carfax is a document that tells about the used car you are wanting to buy. It will tell you if the car has ever been wrecked or if the engine has ever been rebuilt. It is basically the car's entire life history.

A few months ago I purchased a used car from a dealership. It is a 2007 and had less than 50,000 miles on it. I didnt think to ask to see the carfax. Well I went today to schedule an oil change and I wanted the mechanic to make sure that he had the right filters before I scheduled (in case we had to order them). He asked what size my engine was and being a woman I couldnt tell him. So he had me pop the hood so he could take a look. When I did the first question he asked was how long ago the car was wrecked and repaired. [em]confused[/em] I told him that it hadnt as far as I knew and he quickly told me that I was mistaken and the car HAD been wrecked, repaired and repainted.[em]shocked[/em] He proceeded to show me the evidence of the repair work. I was dumbfounded! From this day forward IF I ever buy another car I WILL ask to see the carfax before I make the purchase!

Have you ever asked for the carfax before buying a car?
Have you bought a car without investigating its past?
Have you ever found out something about your car that wished that you had know at the time of purchase?

No Clothes....just ice cream

You have awaken in a strange location without any clothing on or around...just tubs of ice cream. You look out the window, there are people milling about, not within shouting distance but definitely in gazing or ogling distance, but you do see your car, close enough to get to but not without gawkers. Would you use the ice cream and what flavors would they be (this must be included), to cover the necessary parts to be covered or would you eat the ice cream and use the tubs?

Buying cars...

This recession has hit car Makers..(And most everybody else!) I presume because of the number of businesses helping create and support the actual finished product would be why a problem in this industry is being addressed at gov't level...Would You buy a car currently in a market where new cars re being sold (in some cases) cheaper than second hand cars with a years milage on the clock? I've heard of a couple of Schemes recently to sweeten the deal..Germany has a scrappage scheme where the gov't will give You €2000 towards a new car if you trade in your 10yo aging vehicle...A Friend in Spain told Me today She got a 0% Loan over 5 Years on Her New car...Which would You prefer ,if any? I want to be safe than sorry later. I would never leave my doors unlocked. I live in a small town but I would not say it safe just becuase it is a small town. I do not want to be robbed and I do not want anything stolen from me. I never leave without locking my doors. Locking my doors in very important to me and the saftey of my house. I could not imagine what I would do if somone were to rob my house. I would have so much fear about leaving my house and staying there alone.

Do you always wear your seat belt while driving?

Safety is such a factor in all of our lives. We never know when something we do or don't do will turn the course of our lives. We take so many chances and risks everyday. Do we do enough to take necessary safety precautions? Wearing a seat belt while driving is one way to keep us safe. Do you always wear your seat belt while driving?

Using a Cell Phone as a Theft Protection Device for a Car...

I was just wondering, how can I use a cell phone as a theft protection device for my car... does anyone have any idea? probably, I heard (or seen) one of the mobile operators offered anti-theft protection for cars... can't that be improvised too? how about keeping an old cell phone hidden in your car (of course silenced)? in that case, the car, if stolen, can easily be traced tracing the cell phone by the police... the only problem probably is about the arrangement to charge the phone... either, there has to be an arrangement to charge the phone in the car, else, one has to find other alternative(s) (may be when the car is at the garage)...

is it a feasible proposition?

What car do you really want to buy?

What is your favourite car??? Let us share our experiences in terms of the different types of vehicles that we're able to drive and or experience to ride via air, water and land. Please share what are those and how was the experience? what type of vehicle/s that excites you or you're afraid to drive or ride?

Thanks for sharing.

Customer Service Rights

As some of you already know.I do not have a car,I am partially handicapped and on social security. In July I decided to take my daughter to see fireworks which we had not done in a few years because of having no car.I went to the nearby Enterprize car dealership and I asked to rent a car for Saturday only.I was told that they were not open on Saturday because of the holiday or Sunday that I would have to rent the car for the entire weekend and return it on Monday.

Later I met someone that worked at one of their other offices and he told me that, that was not so.That a represenative from one of their other locations could have met me at that location with the car or even had come to my home and that I could of returned it to that location and dropped the keys in their timed after hour's box.Instead I ended up paying for 3 days instead of one.

In September when I got my check it was very hot and my legs were hurting worse then usual and I needed to use a car for the day to do my monthly errands.See,I do not have a major credit card.I have a debit card with a Visa logo on it.Therefore I can use it to rent a car.But am required to bring in a recent pay stub or utility bill.I do not have a utility bill because they are included with my rent. The work that I do I receive cash for,so I need to bring in my benefits statement instead. Also because it is a debit card they charge me a deposit of $200,which gets and has gotten returned to me the next day after I return the car undamaged.

When November arrived I called to reserve a car for the day I got my check and was told that because I am on social security they can not rent me a car.I told him them that I had rented from them before and I was on social security then. The agent then told me that his manager told him no.

In my mind and other people that I have talked to that is discrimination. What do you think?
