I recently had a new ceramic tile floor installed in my great room and love it- except for the fact that heavens to betsy if you drop something on it……its broken no matter what it is…lol. Also wood floors to me seem to make a home feel warmer than ceramic tile...my mother is always complaining that my house is to "industrial" for her...LOL

Anyway..I paid a nice price to have that done but being here watching the guy I really think this can be a do it yourselfer...lol. i want to try either way I go....so any advice on learning this new trade from my mylot fam?? Should I try one over the other as a beginner??

Do you like it? Did you choose it or did it just come with your home? Why did you choose it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? If you could put down anything you wanted What would you choose?

I have ceramic tile throughout. I like it because it's easy to clean and the animals can't ruin it. It's also nice and cool in the summer. It's cold in the winter which is a bummer, but winters are short.

I had an area rug in the living room for a little while. I got it second hand for free. It was quite old and threadbare, but it was just a test rug to see if I could have a rug with my large fur family. I figured if I liked it, I'd buy a nicer one. Nice machine made area rugs are only about $75 here.

What a pain the rug was. It collected dirt and pet hair like crazy. I had to vacuum it every day and even once a day wasn't enough with all my animals. The darn thing was a fur magnet. [em]shocked[/em] As if I couldn't guess that 11 cats and 2 dogs would all lay on it, leaving their fur behind. Then someone decided it's a great spot to pee. Grr And they continued to pee on it. [em]angry[/em]That was the end of it. I tossed it out. No more rugs for me. I can't have carpet or a rug even if I wanted it.

My animals are more important than the flooring or anything else in the house.

See my new deck....

Attached is a picture of a 3 level deck that my husband built. It might be hard to tell just how big it is from the picture, but it is huge! But I wanted to get a picture that showed all 3 levels of the deck.

My husband built it himself and all in about 1 month of time. He got up early every morning at 5:30am and worked on it before work, then worked again after work in the evenings. He was determined to get it done in time for a big family reunion. And he did! We had a family reunion this past weekend in my moms honor (she passed away May 31st).

Dont ever eat anything made by a child!

My Daughter Age 5: Daddy, taste this!

Me: Okay baby, what is it?

My Daughter Age 5: I made you a surprise birthday cake!

Me: Mmmmm, It tastes so go....Bleecch! Yuck! What's in here? Is this a crayon?

I don't know if any of you ever ate something made by a child, but several years ago this was my first time and no one has ever warned me never to eat anything made by a child. Now having the taste of ceramic tile, candle and used bath water ruin my taste buds for that evening, I was curious to know what I actually tasted.

My assessment of the ingredients used in my 5 year old daughter's surprise birthday cake was simply based on the evidence left all over the kitchen.

One full box of baking soda. It looks just like flour and easier to reach.

One half of the half gallon of milk that didn't end up all over the counter and floor.

One egg that she was able to get to from the fridge drop on the floor and then put all of the contents from that eggy mess into the bowl. Shell fragments, paper clips and lint and all.

Several broken "Crayola" crayons with wrappers. They were suppose to be the tasty chocolate chips.

She then proceeded to bake this concoction under a 100 watt light bulb for about 45 minutes in a tiny pan placed inside her "Easy Bake Oven" and serve it to me the way it was.

Oh, There was one ingredient I left out...

...the secret ingredient...

..."yellow".

I'm not really sure what "yellow" is and I had to ask her to show me where she got "yellow" from. After following her into the kitchen where she pointed to a bottle of "Palmolive" Lemon-scented dishwashing detergent, It seems to me that she needed to get some of the ingredients for her special cake for daddy from underneath the sink. This would explain the strange milky bubbles that seems to keep surfacing on my tongue every ten minutes.

This is my warning for new parents! Besides the obvious "watch that kid at all times" policy I neglected to follow, NEVER ever eat or drink anything made by a child...

EVER!

Did I leave anything out? What's your favorite? When I lived in So. Florida I learned to love terrazzo more than any other kind of flooring...it's so nice, clean and cool in the Summer. But I've had all of those I mentioned and my least favorite is wood because of the noise, but carpet because of allergies, and I've had several knaps. My last three houses have been ceramic tile and I hate vinyl just because... What's your preference and why?

What about this one?

I love love love buying old furniture and re-doing it! Like going to goodwill and buying a desk for $7.50 and then putting ceramic tile on the top and painting the legs and giving the drawers new hardware. I also like to detail paint end tables and nightstands. My biggest accomplishment was tiling an entire Queen sized headboard, it came out awesome! I am going to saw the legs off of it, put a base on the bottom of it and turn it into a bar. The headboard is completely solid and has a 3 inch raised up smooth rounded edging all around the sides, so it's perfect!I started selling some things on Craigslist, and I know I want to be an entreprenuer, but I have to figure out what kind of business I want to run. What do you think of this for a business idea? Would you buy things like this? Of course they would be extremely cheaper than going to Rooms to Go and the furniture would be completely unique, and could be custom made!

The structure of laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is made up of 4 layers:Top layer: It is named with wearing resistant layer. It is made up of AL2O3. The little girl whose body was stuffed in a storage bin that washed up on shore in Texas. I was reading the paper today and the little girl's 19 year old mother described to the police how her 2 year old died. This poor little girl was beaten with a belt, had her head held under water and THROWN across the room where she landed on the ceramic tile. If I was the cop/detective and she was telling me what happened I would want to throw her and her new husband across the room. I give law enforcement a lot of credit for keeping their composure and not hurting people like this. And WHY didn't the mom just leave the toddler with her dad? Why don't people like this just put their kids up for adoption if they don't want or love their child. I know we cannot understand it. Because to understand this behavior you have to think like them and I don't think like them.
I'm sorry to bring you down.

The advantages of China laminate flooring

1.Strong wear resistanct
Laminate flooring(LA)is an extremely durable due to its top surface, wear resistant layer. The contents of wear resistant layer include much AL2O3 which is called "man-made diamond". It is suitable for some high traffice places such as gymnasium and supermarket.
2.Srong moisture resistant
LA is strong moisture resistant. The bottom layer of it is mosisture resitant layer. And green core is stronger mositure resistant than that of brown core because some waterproof content is added in green core.
3.Wide range of colors
The rang of colors and finishes are too much than that of hardwood flooring(HF) and bamboo flooring(BF). All the designs from hardwood, bamboo, granite, marble, ceramic tile and carpet are available for laminates.
4.Strong fade resistant
Unlike HF and BF,the colors of LA are on the second layer so it avoide direct sun light. What's more, the special treatment of design improves the fade resistance.
5.Strong stain resistant
LA provides better stain resistance compared to HF and BF as the first layer is strong stain resistant.
6.Cheap
LA from China is much cheaper than that of HF and BF. The website www.flooring-manufacturer.com has much information about China laminate flooring.
7.Easy installation
You even can install laminate flooring yourself with some special installation instructions.
8.Easy maintenance
All that you need to maintain LA is cleaner or rag. In case of damage, you can take apart the broken plank and replace it.
