I could hardly see the TV with my glasses anymore. SO I went to the eye Dr today for an exam and new glasses. Now we all have heard the eyes get worse with age right? NOT!! MIne are getting better as far as seeing distances. Close up, my bifocals need changing badly. So I now have new glasses on order so I can see better and hopefully this will rid me of these head/eyc aches as well. Now they have a new machine called Optomap. It takes photos of the retina. One eye at a time and a bright green light shines then flashes. Painless and wuick. They usually do 2 photos of each eye. But I moved and had 3 of each done. A much better procedure than in the past. Previously the Dr could get a 320 degree view of the retina, now with this Optimap they get a 200 degree view seeing possible things like cancer of the eye, Glaucoma, Retinal detachment, Macular Degeneration and others earlier than before. SO have you been to the eye Dr lately? Are you eyes better or worse than before? Ever have this Optomap done?

Have you ever had one?

I'm pretty sure I have an ingrown eyelash that is irritating my eyeball. I had a couple of them many years ago and had to see an eye doctor to have them plucked out. This one has been driving me nuts since last night! I thought I had something in my eye but couldn't get it out by rubbing it so I used Visine eye drops (saline). Nope, didn't help.

So, I got out the ol' magnifying mirror and saw something right underneath my eyelash line... touching my eyeball. Oh, geez. It looks like a trip to the eye doctor is in order for me today!

Have you ever had one of these? It's like non-stop irritation. It doesn't hurt but it can drive you crazy! If you've had them before, do you have any suggestions other than seeing an eye doctor?

Hole in my Retina--Very scary!

Two days ago, I noticed an increased number of floaters in my right eye. Also, I felt like I was looking through a thin veil with that eye or that my glasses were smudged and wouldn't come clean.

Anyway, the next morning, my vision was slightly worse so I called the eye doctor and got right in for an exam. He said I might have a partial retinal detachment and needed to see a retinal surgeon right away. I was scheduled to see the surgeon at 8:15 a.m. the next day (which was today).

The surgeon said I'd not had a retinal detachment but did have a hole in my retina that needed to be repaired. He said that I am at high risk for more tears and even a detachment because of my high myopia (near sightedness). He said he would need to repair the hole with a laser right away.

Although I have sworn I'd never let a laser near my eyes, I had to go through with it. Boy, was it scary! My question is, have you ever heard of getting a hole in your retina? Have you ever had a hole in your retina or a detached retina? Please share your stories. Thanks.

The first appointment was Thursday morning, then I had to return Friday morning, then again today. My eye is healing well, but the infection isn't quite gone yet. But now she wants be to come back again this Friday!

I can understand the appointment on Thursday. She's an actual eye doctor and knew better than the ER docs as to what I needed in order to heal the eye. And I can understand a follow up appointment to make sure it's healed and well again, but what's with all these appointments in between? It's a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

Have you ever had to see the doc a bit more often than you felt necessary?

Tell me how to protect my eys?

I work fo almost 12 hrs in front of my monitor. How do you feel about it? How do you deal with it?

I used to be nearsighted only, meaning that I have trouble seeing far away. I wear contacts to correct that problem.
In the last two years, my vision for close up/ reading etc., with my contact lenses on has gone down so now when I wear my contacts, I have to wear my reading glasses.
If I decide to take my contact lenses out,I see close up clearly but cannot see far away.
I find this very frustrating and wonder what options there are for dealing with it...

Do you use reading glasses?
How do you feel about them?
How do you deal with using them?
Do you wear contacts or glasses for distance vision?

(I use the term "annually" loosely since my last appointment was Jan of last year.) Well, my prescription got better by 50%! I didn't even know it was possible for your eyes to correct on their own! My eyes have always been the same prescription since I first had them checked when I was 15, and now at 29 year old, they're 50% better. I'm so thrilled! I asked the Dr. if this is common, and he says it's very rare, but it does happen. He says he actually has a patient whose eyes self-corrected back to 20/20 after having been in glasses for over 20 years! It's truely amazing to me that oour bodies give us these little miracles!

So do you know anyone that this has happened to? Or has it happened to you?

Do you wear reading glasses?

Do you wear reading glasses because they are cheaper, when in reality you should be using prescription glasses? Perhaps your insurance doesn't cover optometrist visits or its just simpler to go to store and purchase reading glasses instead of the inconvenience of an office visit?
