How do you prevent them???

I just finally got rid of the fleas on my dogs by buying some expensive flea meds... after trying several other things that didn't work.

I think we finally got rid of them, but I'm still concerned about my cat because he is an indoor/outdoor cat and he's probably the one who brought the fleas home. He doesn't wear a collar, because he scratches at them so much, that it's pointless to try and make him wear one, he'll just shred it... no joke... so that option is out.

And we put some flea meds on his skin that we got from the pet store, but it's just the cheap stuff, and by the hell we went through to get rid of the fleas on our dogs, i'm not convinced it'll be enough to keep them off my cat...

So any flea meds you can suggest that work well on cats?
I'm using K9 Advantix on my dogs, and it seems to have done the trick, but they don't make a cat brand...

Thanks for the help!

P.S. What about tea tree oil?

fleas

hi all i am having a flea problem with my one dog i tried everything even stuff from the vet and she is still scratching herself to death .she hates me to brush her and hates baths ao i chase her around like crazy spraying her. someone said put garlic on her food . has anyone tried this?

Flea prevention -- kitty's mad at me!

I just put some Advantage flea repellent on my cat, and she is none too happy with me. She made an unhappy face, squinted her eyes, and laid her ears flat back on her head at me. I think she was surprised at the cold liquid between her shoulders, but it's for her own good! She's actually allergic to flea saliva and takes a long time to heal from bites.
Sigh...it's hard to do something to your pet that you know they hate but it's worth it for their health.
This picture isn't from today, btw :P

Fleas, Ticks and Preventative Medications.....What Do You Use?

I have had my dog and cat vaccinated (or whatever) for fleas and yicks in previous years useing the products available from the vet, listed under the names Advantage and Revolution. They have done thier job nd worked well without complications but they are very costly, especially in comparison to the products avaiable in pet stores and stores like Walmart claiming to do a similar job. Has anyone had any luck with any of these pet store varieties of flea and tick control? I am referring to the product that gets out on the animal in a drop on the back of thier neck once a month and is supposed to kill and ticks or fleas that get on them. I once heard a story about a cat having an allergic reaction to Hartz brand flea and tick drops and so I am afriad to use them on my animals, but I also don't want to grossly overpay at the vet if I could be buying the same product in a store much cheaper. We are mvoing in 17 days to a house in the woods and I need to have both of them protected by the time we move. They already have a few fleas from my dog going for walks and picking them up from the grass and bringing them home, then they get on the cat too (he's not allowed outside). Anyone who has used any of the pet store products please let me know what your experiences were with them. Also if there is anyone out there who knows any tricks to get the fleas that they have now to stop biting them please tell me. I have already sprinkled garlic powder on my dogs food (I heard fleas hate garlic) but I want to do as much as I can for them immediatly, because whatever treatment I get will take a while to work.

Ideas to get rid of Fleas and Ticks?

In the past two days, my husband and I have picked off about 4 or 5 ticks off of us and our puppy. I know that there are some products that we can use to spray the yard and the inside of the house. I've never had to use these products before but this year it seems like we are going to have to use them. Does anyone know of a good brand that works? I would really appreciate any advice here. We live in a very woody and grassy area. We will be treating him with K9 Advantick or Advantange but I want some more protection. I can't stand fleas, ticks or any other type of bugs. Ugh!!!

How often do you bathe your cat?

Can we bathe them everyday if our cats move around a lot in the neighbourhood? You know, looking for his mate... If we don't bathe him too often will he get infected with flea or others when he mate with other female cats?
