He had a long feud with his successor, the present Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Mahathir hand picked his sucessor Abdullah. After a few months both of them fell out of favour. Mahathir hand picked Anwar Ibrahim and made him Deputy Prime Minister. When both disagreed on some political issues, Anwar was arrested, charged and jailed for sodomy. Now Anwar Ibrahim is poised to take over power when the current government falls soon. Mahathir wanted to go on ruling the country under proxy by hand picking his man to succeed him as Prime Minister. But when the successor fails to be obedient, Mahathir turns on his own man.
