Is this what you want for your child?

Below is a description of the Job Corp program from the Dept. of Labor website. This is not a program where a child comes home every evening, they live there. I am familiar with these juvenile detention facilities desguised as camps and they are dangerous and ugly places. There is violence and intimidation among the students, little supervision and the training is substandard because good teachers do not go there. Even if this program did not have the problems it currently has, I resent the suggestion that the government should have the right to remove my child from my home and place him in a facility to be educated and trained. Whatever happened to my child's rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? I also don't see any mention on the website of offering educational opportunities for these kids at the college level. I guess, like in communist countries, only the select few will be permitted to attend college. Is this the future you want for your child or grandchild? I certainly don't.

Or nothing.....

I am not a big fan of "Big Brother" and really never have been...some would probably say I'm a throwback from the hippie era and they would probably be right but I just am not a very big fan of gonernment.
Having said that I have seen some things that the government has done that has been good but regulating too much is not one of them.
So now that I am almost certified as a Master Herbalist and we have defeated the bill in Colorado that would have prevented our demise I am thinking about this question....
Do you believe that government should regulate religion? How about health care? What about your jobs...your private schools? Do you think that people should make up their own mind about their life....like smoking in their own property?
What about cell phone use?
These are all things that have been attacked in the past by big governments everywhere....so what are your thoughts?

Food Stamps and the people that use them

I work for Wal Mart and here in South Dakota, and on the 10th of every month, we have people coming in at midnite to buy groceries with their food stamps or EBT cards. I don't have a problem with people who need the help to buy the food for their families but I do have a problem with those people who abuse the system.
For example, last Wednesday night was the 10th and we got slammed with those coming in to buy food on their EBT Cards. My co worker and I were noticing that many of the items bought were junk food, (chips, pop, candy and anything non nutritional) and also many high end meat items such as beef briskets for $25 a piece-meats that we as working people cannot afford but these people can because we as tax payers pay for them to buy these expensive meats.
It just really burns me up how people can take advantage of the system. I was on food stamps years ago but I just bought the basics, nothing expensive and used coupons. Then if someone didn't have enough money on the card, they would put the perishables to the side, we have to throw the perishables away if they are left out.
I wish the laws would be a little stricter for the food stamps-just buy the nutritional foods, limit the junk food purchase and limit the costs of the high end meats.
Many of the people have had two or more shopping carts full of groceries but inside the bags, there was not a whole lot of nutritious food. Then these same people would buy other things such as electronics and whip out a credit card. I thought food stamps and government assistance programs were for those that seriously need the extra help.Any comments?

which is better love or arranged marriage

As i am an Indian and in INDIA still there is arranged marriage culture what we call is our parents and family members search a girl/boy with whom one has to marry.
And in INDIA still love marriage is not accepted widely.
But people who get in love always wish to marry with their love partner instead of tieing a knot to unknown person.

but love marriage usually don't get successful as i heard.

They stated that some states are considering making it mandatory that adolescent girls be required to have the vaccine before they enter middle school. While I think the vaccine is a good thing, I don't think it's fair to pick on just the girls. HPV is spread through sexual contact. My OBGYN told me that there are many men out there who have HPV but because there are no symptoms these men don't even know that they've picked it up and therefore are not aware that they're spreading it. I think that if girls have to be tested for it that the boys should have to be tested for it as well. So if you are seriously trying to stop the transfer of a sexually transmitted disease like HPV, you need to be treating both sexes for it. Just my opinion.

Personal Freedoms?

What personal freedoms do we as citizens of the world actually have? It would apear we no longer truly have freedom of speech (case in point, the guy going through Australia, and was wearing a shirt calling Bush a terrorist (which he is) was asked to remove it for "security reasons" what sort of danger could a shirt pose? Hmmm.. Semtex in the tag maybe? Cyanide in the ink? who knows...)... Even if you are a citizen of a country and are travelling back home you get asked at customs.. "So how long are you staying?" DUH.. I am a citizen here, I can stay as long as I dang well want!.. The other question I liked was "So, what business do you have here?" I always like the response.. Gee, I work for so and so, but if you keep me any longer I'll have to call in EXTREMELY late.. Of course my favorite question has to be.. "Do you have anything to declare?" YES.. as a matter of fact I do.. I've been travelling for 16 hours, I'm hungry, the airline was cramped, the air was stale, the food was over priced, the perfume the flight attendant was wearing made me sneeze, and I find your service to be lacking... (Followed of course by me being dragged off to another room to await counsel... *sigh....)

So, what personal freedoms do we still have?

"Ain't No Body's Business If I Do"

What I do and what I don't do, ain't no body's business. I do what I do to please me. It's my own personal freedom to do what I want, when I want, how I want and for the reasons I want.
Do you have personal freedom. What do you think personal freedom is anyway? Does your personal freedom have a standard of ethics or does it exist with the the idea that 'it ain't no body's business if I do'?
Please explain your idea of personal freedom.

Dancing boy beaten up by bullies...This is just too sad

This week Italian news reported of a 13 year old boy getting beaten up in the legs by 2 bullies around his age at school for the only reason that he is studying to become a ballet dancer...
Andrea, this is the name of the boy, wrote an essay that he read to the class on St Valentine's day, about his passion for dancing...his words were not different from those that Billy Elliot uses in the movie when he speaks of what he feels when he dances...and these words caused those 2 little criminals to decide to beat him up a few days after, making sure they would break his legs to keep him away from his dream...thankfully his parents sued the two criminals (calling them bullies is nothing i think) and he is going to do everything to go back dancing as soon as he can...

I dont know why i am this surprised because i know kids can be this dangerous, especially when their parents teach them these things, but really the news filled me with sadness...I wish the little guy (and all the little kids in his situation) all the best and hopefully one day those two guys will be in prison and he will be on a stage fulfilling his dream!

Hypothetical situation #1

So I'm watchign a documentary on tv right now with my husband and the situation they are talking about is really interesting and I'd like to see what you all think should be done

Man comes into the emergency room of the local hospital with his stumped arm wrapped in a towel and bloody/bleeding...his amputated hand in a baggy...When asked what happen he claims that he accidentally cut it off wiht the lawnmower..BUT he refuses to let the doc's reattach the hand!

So long story short....Apparently the man has a fetish for amputees and decided he wanted to be one himself so he cut off his own hand which is why he's refusing the reattachment procedure....to the point that he tells the doc's that if they DO reattach it, he'll just cut it off again!!

What I want to know is this....What do you think the doctors should do?

should they go with his wishes and NOT reattach the hand (but fix the stump to prevent infection etc)? OR

should the FORCE the reattachment and send him on his way hoping he leaves it on OR

should they admit him to the psych ward, reattach the hand and have him mentally examined?

OR can you think of another possible solution to the situation?

Personal Freedom

I am curious to hear other opinions about what other people would say about personal freedom, and what would to it for them? For me, I would have to say, that it would be not to let anything get under my skin. To have that ability would be so freeing, that no matter what is going on in the world, you would be able to accept it, but not affect you.
