Each one is worse than the one before it. And then if they're not playing their own badly written, badly acted, complete with the worse CGI available movies, they're playing bottom of the barrel "Hollywood" movies.
Seriously, Bloodrayne 1 and 2?! The first one wasn't awful enough, they had to make a second? And the knockoff movies, Alien vs. Hunter, I am omega, next they'll have Transmophers.

Sci Fi needs new program managers, desperately.

Sci Fi Channel Changing To SyFy Channel 7/7/09 - What does this mean?

I have been watching the Sci Fi Channel today for the annual 4th of July Twilight Zone Marathon and I have been seeing a bunch of commercials advertising that the Sci Fi Channel is changing to the "SyFy Channel" on July 7, 2009. I wonder exactly what this means.

I did some investigating as this peaked my curiosity. It appears that the Sci Fi network is wanting to change its "nerdy" image and be more youthful and hip. They targeted a group of 18 to 34 year olds and passed the name "SyFy" to them. They loved it, saying SyFy is actually is how you’d text it in a conversation or text message.

The channel is making the name change on 7/7/09 and is also launching the new series “Warehouse 13” the same day. They also stated that the international Sci Fi channels will transition to the new "SyFy" name over the next six to twelve months. The website www.SciFi.com also will make the change to www.Syfy.com.

Personally, I think this is a rather stupid idea. I like the name "Sci Fi" Channel. I don't like SyFy. It is more phonetic as opposed to actually representing the actual words "Science Fiction". I feel as though they are "dumbing it down" for the general public.

So what do you think of this change? I mean as far as I'm concerned, the only people who truly watch the Sci Fi Channel are the geeky, nerdy people. They really aren't the teenage crowd that visit the mall and text their "BFF's".

Syfy ....

I dont know about you, but I dont see any real difference. The station has gone by the name Sci Fi for 16 years now so why all of the sudden ruin it by changing the I's to Y's?

According to the site I read, they want to get away from the nerdy image that the Sci Fi (short for science fiction) name bring up, Tim Brooks, who helped launch the channel said "The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games" (I dont know about you, but I dont even have a basement).

They are hoping the name change will attract the general public and especialy the female audience.

Do any of you think the name change will change the way people think about them, since the new name is so close to the original one? If so, why?

If you could just watch one TV channel....?

If you could just watch one TV channel, for say the next year what one would you watch? Would you choose one that has more dramas or comedies? Or would it be a factual one with news and documentaries?

I live in the UK and have Freeview (for people who don't know that gives me about 40 channels that I can watch, it's an upgrade on the standard 5 channels for the UK.) I think I would be torn between either Five US which shows a mixture of comedy and drama such as Whose Line is it Anyway? House M.D. and CSI or I would go for Dave which is mainly a comedy channel showing british pannel shows such as Mock the Week and Have I got News for You.

What I find interesting is that despite the fact I live in the UK and have all my life, I would happily choose a channel with all US programmes. I like Ghost Hunters: International but, not as much as the original. I like the chemistry of the cast of the original. Jay and Grant make a great team and, when they goof off, I love it! Brian Harnois (sp) bugs me. I thought they finally gave him the boot after he was hardly on last season but, now I see why. He was on International. He seems even more bitter on International than he ever did on the original.

One thing I love about the Ghost Hunters is that they really do try to debunk "hauntings" and are really tentative about labeling a place "haunted". And, they don't sensationalize the paranormal happenings by catering to "Psychics" who have out-of-body experiences. I feel like it lends them more credibility. I can't remember what channel it is on but, there is a new show called Paranormal State. It plays 2 new episodes back to back and after its very first new episode, I gave up on it. They did Seances (sorry for the spelling) and just tried to make it too creepy by using a synthesizer (or something) to make the narration all weird. A clear cut case of Sensationalizing. The Paranormal is sensational enough without resorting to parlor tricks to spice it up. It doesn't need seasoning. Let the evidence do the talking. That is exactly what Ghost Hunters does and exactly why I like them. They serve their dish with just the perfect amount of spice and heat and don't over do it!

Do you like watching the Outer Limits?

This is a show that comes on the SCI FI Channel. I saw it this morning. I enjoyed it. It can be pretty creepy when they show many different types of shows.. I love watching many sequences to this show. What about you?

Did anyone watch Jeremiah on Sci Fi last night?

I watched the first 2 hours. It has potential but I'm not quite sure it can live up to it's potential. I'll give it a few more episodes before I decide to commit to the series.

I generally like post-modern, post-apocalyptic type movies. I liked Jericho, yet that too could have been better. I think this tpye of scenario is better in movies than in series.
The starting point for Jeremiah is: 15 years ago, The Big Death killed 6 billion people, anyone over puberty died. Imagine that, the world populated by children who have managed to survive to adulthood.
Luke Perry is Jeremiah, Malcolm Jamal Warner is Kurdy, the two lead character in the series. 'Six' and 'Dee' from Battlestar Galactica are in the cast as well.
The thing I found odd is that instead of airing the series a hour or two per week, SciFi Channel airs 4 episodes back to back on Thursday nights. I can't sit through 4 hours of the same show. I DVR'd it and I'll get to the second 2 hours later.

Have you watched it?
