Have a look and enjoy.
After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply
for Social Security.
The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application.
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability pension too'
And THAT'S WHEN THE FIGHT STARTED.....
***********************My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school
reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, 'Do you know her?' 'Yes,' I sighed, 'she's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up all those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'
'My God!' says my wife, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'

I just got my marriage certificate in the mail, so I think I'm ready to get going. Just seems a little overwhelming!

Where's a good place to get started? The Social Security office? What will I need to take with me?

WARNING about Primerica Prepaid Legal Services.

Well let's talk about prepaid legal services. My mom bought an insurance policy through a company called Primerica. She purchased this policy 7 years before she passed away. Now when she bought this policy she also bought the extra service that went with it call prepaid legal. My mom paid $25.00 a month for this and paid it faithfully every month. The insurance was to pay for all of her final expenses, and for a attorney to handle all of her final arrangements. She had set it up so that myself and my brothers would not have to be concerned with any of it at the time of her death. Well She passed a couple years ago and we found out she had been scammed. Well partially scammed anyways. The insurance policy did pay off just as it was supposed to, but! The prepaid attorney refused to even get on the phone and talk with us. We ended up doing everything he was prepaid for 7 years to do. Since my mother had setup this service, we really had no idea what all needed to be done after her death. Like accounts that needed to be closed, accounts that needed to paid off, or anything else. When we would try to discuss it with her, she would always tell us not to worry about it, she had it took care of already. And all we needed to do was call this number she had on a card and notify them of her death.
Well as I said the day came that she passed and we did as she to do. While we were at the funeral home we made the call to them and was told they would not be doing anything. The death insurance paid just as it was supposed to so we were able to give her the burial that she deserved. But because she had put all of her faith into the prepaid legal service, we ended up having to hunt down all of her accounts and other final arrangements. But that's not even what upset us as we were glad to do it for her. What upset us was the fact that we were told that she was dead and the company had no further obligations to her. Now my mother was not a rich woman by any means, but she did have a lot of things that had to be handled after her death. But the fact that they refused fulfill the obligations that they did have to her, wasn't even the worst part of it. That wouldn't come till the next month.
I'm not sure how many are aware that once a person dies, the family can not close their bank accounts or even remove the money until all outstanding checks have been paid. And the social security office says to leave it open for a minimum of 3 months to insure they can retrieve any money paid to them after their death. Well following the bank and the social security's rules we did leave her account open. One day I go to retrieve her mail and there was a statement from the bank stating her account was over drawn. Now knowing that all of her checks had already cleared her account and all credit accounts were paid by the insurance on each of them, we could not figure out why her account was now over drawn. So we go to the bank and find out that Primerica was still taking $25.00 a month out of her account. When we called them to get it cleared up we were informed that they had all rights to continue taking the money, because they were not notified of her death. Which was a complete lie. As I said we had spoken with the person that was supposed to handle her final arrangements at the funeral home. And was told they would not be doing anything for her as she was dead and they had no obligation to us.
Now a woman that prided herself in not ever being in debt was being bankrupted after her death by the company that was supposed to protect her interest. We had to pay back the bank the money they took plus all of the fees they charged for it being over drawn. SO BEWARE THAT PRIMERICA PREPAID LEGAL IS A SCAM!!!! The insurance is a good one to have as they did pay as they said.
I'm not sure if any of you will find this information useful but I felt I should take a moment to warn everyone about the prepaid legal services offered by Primerica. If you have had any dealings with this company this is a good place to tell others about it as I will be adding links to this article everywhere I can.

Can A Mean Bossy Husband Take Away His Own Child's Ssi Disabilility Check?

My sister has a problem. She has a handicapped child and receives ssi disability money from the social security Office for this child. She has received a disability check for 5 years and her child will be eligible to continue to receive disability money for the rest of her life as long as she is handicapped. However, to continue receiving disability money, the family must meet income guidelines and show proof of income. Since my sister does not work and has no income, their income is based on what her husband makes. Every month she is required to mail in a copy of her husband's pay stub to prove they qualify. The husband's income is low enough that the child still qualifies for disability money. Now here is the problem: My sister's husband all of a sudden decides to stop giving his wife a copy of his pay stub. He used to give a copy of his pay stub, now he is tearing up and throwing away his pay stub on purpose just to be mean because he want his own child to stop getting disability money. He wants my sister to go back to work and stop staying home with their child. I think this is crazy because the disability money helps to pay the bills. My sister uses the money to pay the mortgage, electric bill, phone bill, cable bill and these are all the basic household needs. Her husband should be happy that the government offers money for handicapped people and that the child's disability money pays all the bills in the house. Her husband works and pays car payment, car insurance and buys food sometime with his own salary, but the child's disability money contributes the most to the household income. Why does my sister's husband want to stop his child from getting disability? It is best my sister continue to stay home and take care of her child, for the benefit of her child. As long as the bills are paid, does it matter where the source of income came from? If my sister gets a job outside the home, their combined income with her and her husband will be too much and the disability check will stop. Her husband is very bossy and mean, wanting to control everything and not even thinking about what is best for his own child is for the mother to stay home. If my sister tells a lie to the Social Security office and tells them her husband does not live with her anymore, will she get in trouble because her husband won't give her his pay stub now? Should my sister divorce her husband and take care of her child by herself, because she is paying all the household bills anyway? My sister owns the house together with her husband and both their names are on the house, but my sister pays the mortgage herself using the child's disability check and her husband does not help her. If they divorce who will get the house? The mortgage payment is only $300 dollars a month and my sister wants to keep the house. My sister receives $1,000 dollars a month disability for her child and this is enough to live on if she budgets her money. Her husband makes around $2,000 dollars a month, bringing the total income to about $3,000 dollars a month. No, they are not rich, this is enough to get by. What do you think about this? Is my sister's husband wrong to try to stop the extra $1,000 dollars disability money for his child? I think he is crazy. What is your opinion?

Is a job posting for $8 per hour REQUIRING a degree fair?

I was in the welfare office about a month ago, to ask for directions to the Social Security Office. While in there, I decided to look at postings on the bulletin board for job openings. The jobs I saw were $8 per hour and required you to have a degree. Now, my argument about this wasn't that we should be entitled to make tons of money after earning a degree, but that it really SHOULDN'T be required to have a degree to make only $.75 more per hour than the minimum wage here in Pennsylvania.
To me, that's a waste. They are basically saying "hey, you have to spend $10,000 per year in order to make barely anything."
Who else feels this is wrong? Who feels this is okay? Who feels that this may be the reason there are so many people on welfare?

autism

Doctor office and social security office is saying my 5 year old daughter have autism but not sure what kind......any one out therewith kids that have autism maybe you can shed some light on this for me

Frustration

I went to the Social Security Office today. They forgot the change my medicare. I had a name change. After I divorced my ex husband I got my birth name back. Anyhow I went there today to tell them that they forgot to change my medicare. The lady laughed in my face and told me we need your divorce papers. That made me so mad. I mean it is their fault they are the ones that did not change my medicaid name. I have it on my Social Security card and My license is back to my birth name. I lost my divorce papers nut I can go back to the court house to get papers. That made me so mad. i mean I had waited 2 hours beforwe my number was called which in understandable for something that is their fault when she said that I said a few bad words. I almost want to call the head office and tell them about this lady but i did not get her name. That was just very rude and not very professinal

Unbutton Your Shirt

I tried to get a social security number but not was given, because of the so many step by step process they want me to do. I've asked my friends here in California and in some other states how they get their social security number. They told me they just presented passport with the k1 visa, attached I-94,and marraige contract. So,i have followed what they did.
Last friday i went to the Social Security Office, filled out an application form and presented to them my passport,k1 visa, attached I-94,and marriage contract. The agent told me that they could not give me a number if i dont have an EAD or Employment Authorization, greencard,or k3 visa.
I felt depressed after knowing it. I never even want to work but just to spend time with my fiance for a few years. I dont know why they would require me to have an EAD. Is it necessary to have an EAD before i can get an SSN?
