These people are living on the reserve in a trailer and have had nothing for ever.
The husband had a stroke some time ago and walks with a cane.
What rattled my cage was what the husband said his words were, well maybe now I can get a proper doctor and help me, it would be good to be able to walk without a cane again.
That just makes me sick, if he had a stroke and help or better treatment is in fact possible why should fifty million dollars be the deciding factor. This man is no more a better or different person because he has money to throw around right???
Doctors get paid big bucks to care for our needs so what's the difference if we hace fifty cents in our pockets or fifty million dollars? This is Canada I'm talking about we have free health care so it's not like he would have to pay. Just goes to show it is true you get what you pay for I guess.
I'd just like to hear other opinions on this. Thank You.

One medication's dangers brought to light...coumadin or warfarin

Coumadin is a blood thinner in layman's terms. It keeps platelets in the blood from clotting. It is given to a wide range of patients...those who've had certain surgeries involving a implant of some sort...and those 'at risk' for stroke cause by an embolism.

There are two kinds of stroke... a clot that cuts off circulation in the brain, and the rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. Coumadin is given in the hopes of preventing a clot.

I found this article on coumadin quite by accident. I am a medication technician and give medications to the elderly in a nursing home. I give alot of coumadin. Now, I am wondering if I should go back to school at this late date in my life and find another career.

I have always been interested in naturopathy which is an alternative medicine practice using herbs and nutrition and lifestyle change to effect a cure. I have done extensive reading on the subject and would love to go further with it as a possible career. But with the current political climate and the uncertainty of alternative health practices being 'allowed' in our coming socialized medicine under Obamacare....I'm not so sure this would be wise financially. lol

But I do know there are nutritional supplements that thin the blood like Omaga 3 fatty acids, vitamin E and some herbs that thin the blood. Why would anyone want to give rat poison, which is what warfarin, coumadin...is?

Tell me what you think after reading about the dangers of coumadin.

Baby born 48 hours too soon left to die by doctors because Government guideline

prohibits them. This is how care is rationed in government run health care.

There's been a lot of talk about "death panels" and of course, the chosen examples are always about "pulling the plug on Grandma" an example used mainly to make those with genuine concerns look foolish.

But the truth is that benefits will be rationed in that there will be strict guidelines on what doctors may or may not do, what tests they may or may not order based on some criteria that will be decided by a panel of 27 benefits advisory members, 18 of which will be appointed by the president. Not just this president but any president to follow him. At least 10 of those members will be Federal employees.

An example of how those "guidelines" can impact in situations involving much more than just the refusal of treatment to the elderly is contained in this heartbreaking story of a child born just 48 hours too soon to meet the guidelines for treatment. This tiny, premature baby boy struggled to survive for two hours after he was born, but without an incubator to keep him warm, he literally froze to death while his mother desperately pleaded with hospital staff. The midwife tried to advocate for the child, but doctors refused to even SEE him or assess his condition. Although he was breathing on his own and moving his arms and legs, they labeled him Stillborn, and he was officially recorded as a miscarriage.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1212924/Doctors-said-Id-miscarriage-did-premature-baby-fought-life.html

I could find any number of stories on the much higher death rates from cancer in countries with socialized medicine, or the stories of women giving birth on a sidewalk or in a car or in the hospital parking lot because regulations or hospital crowding prevented them from being afforded ambulances or medical care.

But this story of a woman, who never thought she would be able to have another child and then did, only to have his life discarded by the system, is the most poignant example I have seen.

Do you really want the government to make life and death decisions?

Premature baby allowed to die because it was "against the rules" to help him

I'm reposting this discussion because the links in the original didn't post correctly

Doctors left a premature baby to die because he was born two days too early, his devastated mother claimed yesterday. Sarah Capewell begged them to save her tiny son,... who was born just 21 weeks and five days into her pregnancy - almost four months early.

Now, those of you who think we are being alarmist because we don't want the government to run health care need to pay attention.

You think it can't happen here?

Health Care

What are all the problems associated with Health Care?

There is an economic factor...
a.) Who pays?
b.) Who doesn't pay?
c.) How much should each person pay?

There is a moral issue...
a.) Who should get treatment?

What about medical malpractice?

How much should a professional earn?

Should there be an insurance agency?

Should HIPA prevent the next of kin from following up on the care of each other?

We certainly need strong reform and now because our future depends on us getting this right.

How does Health Care effect Social Security?

What about Life Insurance?

What about Individual Retirement Accounts?

All of these things are interconnected and once we see how all the pieces fit together we should be able to come up with the only possible solution that is available and that would be to do what is best not only for our country but every other country around the globe.

All countries should be competing to discover and lead the way in presenting the best health care possible for each of their citizens so that all citizens around the world are getting the best treatment and care possible.

Otherwise the international community could ban together to enforce sanctions on countries that are committing human rights violations.

Is health care connected to how the judicial system of a country works?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090814/ap_on_re_eu/eu_britain_us_health_care

Now I know this article seems, at first look, to be totally foriegn to what I have been saying recently here on MYLot but the last paragraph of the story really says it all! That last paragraph?(for those of you who either wouldn't or couldn't go to the article):

British officials acknowledge that their system has been struggling to cope and faces a 15 billion pound ($24 billion) deficit. Hospitals are often overcrowded, dirty and understaffed, which means some patients do not get the care they are promised.

By their own admission the British NHS is unfundable, causes overcrowded, understaffed and dirty hospitals and puts people at high risk and because of these shortfalls medicine is rationed!

People, THINK! If this bill congress and the president is trying to shove down our throats were so good, why are they out doing the hard-sell campaign? If the people at town hall meetings protesting loudly against this bill are not a good representation of the American people as one turn-coat senator has recently said, why does anyone, much less the president, feel the need to go out and sell it, it should sell itself! It's total hogwash and will be the demise, if passed, of our healthcare system!

Obama Examples please

Now there are many posts on here that are either pro or con about Obama. Below are some highlights in "quotes" from the article and poll for which I've provided that link.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/06/19/opinion/polls/main5098517.shtml

"A clear majority of Americans -- 72 percent -- support a government-sponsored health care plan to compete with private insurers, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds. Most also think the government would do a better job than private industry at keeping down costs and believe that the government should guarantee health care for all Americans."

This is a no-brainer for me; if we could trust the insurance companies to keep costs down would we be paying the high costs we're paying today to begin with? Would there be as much of a NEED for the government to step in and see to it that everyone had access to affordable health care?

"More generally, 64 percent of Americans say the government should guarantee health insurance for all Americans. Just 30 percent think this is not its responsibility. Those percentages have been stable for many years."

64% is a bigger majority than any political party has had in my memory!

"When presented with the option of a government-administered health insurance plan similar to Medicare to compete with private health insurance companies, 72 percent are in favor and just 20 percent oppose. Even 50 percent of Republicans favor that option."

Do the Republicans particularly in the Senate CARE about those 50%?

"Americans have more defined views on whether insurers should cover anyone who applies for coverage, regardless of whether they have a pre-existing medical condition or a prior illness, with 75 percent approving of this proposal and just 17 percent disapproving. Even if the cost of their health insurance rose, 56 percent would still approve of this measure.
Overall, 57 percent of Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes so that all Americans would have health insurance they can’t lose. Majorities of Democrats and independents are willing to pay higher taxes, but two thirds of Republicans are no.
However, when a specific dollar amount is included in the question, support drops. Just 43 percent of Americans would be willing to pay $500 a year more in taxes to pay for universal health care."

I can understand that, $500 more a year in taxes is a substantial amount! However, I'd like to see the results of a poll asking how they'd feel if their total output for taxes plus health care expenses remained close to the same, how would they feel then? In my opinion, if everyone were covered and everyone were able to get the preventative care they need and if nobody were forced to use their local ER as their "primary physician" and then couldn't pay the much higher bill than an actual family doctor would have been it would save money in the long run.

"One in five report they or someone in their household have had to go without a test, treatment or procedure that their doctor recommended because their health insurance plan wouldn’t cover it. Among those with health insurance, 15 percent say they have gone without medical treatment."

Can anyone here actually DEFEND that? Some people say they're concerned that the "government" will get between them and their doctors. For years it's been the insurance company bureaucrats who have done exactly that! THEY don't have to worry about losing votes or the support of constituents, all THEY care about is profits!

The insurance company bureaucrats couldn't care less whether the people they're denying treatment to are Democrats or Republicans. The 40, 50 or however many million Americans without health insurance sure don't care what party those who vote for or against a health care plan are from. The families of the approximately 20,000 people per year who die because they don't have health insurance aren't thinking a whole lot about "bipartisanship" nonsense right now!

No matter which side you're on in this debate, here's a link where you can find out how your Representative or Senator feels about this issue and an easy form for you to contact him or her to make your thoughts known!

My personal message to President Obama and all the Democrats in the Senate is simple...

WHO CARES ABOUT BIPARTISANSHIP!!
