The problem really was, she didn't want me looking like a bushy afro kid. I didn't like the barbershop much. Which was why when I was old enough to start paying for my own stuff, that I did just that. I became friends with another boy who learned how to cut hair by cutting his own. So, I bought some clippers and started cutting my own hair as well. Little did I know that I would actually get pretty good at it that I cut my nickname in the back of my head.

So, now I cut my hair whenever I need a haircut verses going to a professional barber. My wife even cuts my kids hair. What do you do? How often do you visit the barber of salon?

Hair cut like a celebrity

There is a show called [i]Shear Genius[/i ] (hair stylists compete for a big prize) that airs on the Bravo network. Last year a woman asked the contestant to cut and style her hair like Gwen Stefani's. Well the contestant (the hair stylist) tried, but it just isn't likely that a person can give a woman platinum blonde hair in two hours when the original color of the woman's hair was black. So it didn't go well.

My mom brought my sister and I into a salon when we were very young, I think 5 and 7. She asked the woman to cut me and my sister's hair like Dorothy Hamill, the famous ice skater. Dorothy Hamill was still quite popular back then. Well when the hair cuts were finished, we did not look like Dorothy Hamill. We looked like Dorothy Hamill's brother!

Have you ever asked your stylist or barber to cut your hair like a celebrity? If so, did it work out OK? Is there someone you want to have you hair styled after? I know the Rachel cut was popular when Jennifer Aniston was on Friends.

Should I tell my mother in law or not?

My mother in law just gave my daughter and I a hair cut. She is a licensed stylist and has her own shop. She cut my daughters shorter than she wanted and it was not even close to the style she asked for. Now My daughter has natural wavy hair and the style was designed for straight. My M-I-L cut it very nice and close to what my daughter wanted last time but way missed the mark this time. Then I asked for a style that was a bob with blended in bangs. She cut mine in exactly the same way as my daughters. She used a straight razor and gave it two big fat layers and no way resembled the hair cut I asked for. When my daughter complained My M-I-L got pretty upset at her over it. When she cut mine I just went with it and can make it look pretty good. I want to tell her that she did not cut it according to the pictures because a bob is not layered or shagged with a razor blade. I am afraid she will ask me who went to school for it and get mad at me. Should I tell her so that she don't do customers this way or should I just let it go and not say anything?

Does the perfect haircut exist?

Do you know of any good websites that have pictures of hairstyles? I can't seem to find any good ones. I really need to get some layers put back in my collar length hair. I can't find any good pictures of different types of layers. Any help would be appreciated!

When will I ever learn my lesson?

My bangs (fringe) was getting really long. I couldn't see! I called my salon girl. She was totally booked. A friend at work suggested I go to her girl. I said she was probably booked too. She called and got me an appointment after work.
I told the girl explicitly that I was trying to grow my hair long and to please just trim the layers and shorten the bangs.
She totally did her own thing! She cut off 2 inches and got rid of all the layers! She didn't even leave it long enough for a ponytail.
I cried all the way home. And of course, my husband didn't understand. That made me cry more.
When will I learn to only go to my girl faithfully?
I must go write a thousand times, "I will only go see Shannon for a haircut forever and always."

Who is your favorite fashion icon or supermodel?

Does someone ifluence the way you dress up? Do you adore fashion icons or supermodels? Personally, I like Twiggy, Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks because of there personal style. They are unique in their own ways and also smart. They are successful in their respective fields.

What was the worst haircut you ever had?

I saw this picture yesterday and it reminded me how I felt at my last haircut. I had a great beautician in Phoenix that loved working with my hair but when I moved here I didn't know anyone and just went to Walmart--my other one was in Walmart, too.
Well, I asked the girl to cut it short so it wouldn't be in my eyes or cling to my neck in the heat and when she got done I looked like a man! [em]cry[/em] I was so embarrassed to leave the store, I looked awful. I have a cowlick and she'd paid that no heed, it stuck up in the air for weeks till it got a little length to it.
It's grown out now and I think I'll just let it grow, it's almost to my shoulders.

Hair fashion and style

Nowadays there are lots of hair fashion here styled by different stylists. Theres hair spa, hair reborn and this hair rebonding. Are you on to this or you just think this is a fad or your hair needs these treatments. Me, I just shampoo my hair, put in conditioner, and once in a while have my hot oil.

Does your hairstylist rent a space from the salon they work for

or are you perhaps a stylist yourself?

I am wondering about this business arrangement and what is best for the stylist in this situation.
