Is it a need ?

Dear all MyLotters,

I am wondering do all of you watching television everyday ??
Yes... I have to watch Television everyday,No Television a day, I can't stand it at all.

I like to watch Singapore dramas everynight.Since I am having Astro Max recorder at home that can record some movies,I always get them recorded and I will watch the dramas at my convenience time.
I also like to watch TV shows like : Fear factor,Amazing race,The Oprah Shows a\nd\ F1 car racing. They are my favourite shows.

What is your favourite show?
Do share with me your opinions,Thank you !!

Apocalyptic movies

I am watching a made for tv 2 part miniseries called Impact.

The premise is that a piece of a burned out star, a brown dwarf, collided with another brown dwarf and fragments were sent out. Unlike other movies of this type, the fragment did not hit the earth, this one hit the moon. Since the brown dwarf is a compressed star, the mass of the moon becomes over double the mass of the earth. Due to properties of the star, and the movement it causes on the moon, the earth is in danger of apocalyptic damage, in other words it will be destroyed.

Yesterday I watched a movie called the Chaos Experiment. This was a psychological thriller. A scientist who went over the edge, locks subjects in a steam room to see the effects of global warming on them.

Last week I watched another apocalyptic thriller about an huge asteroid on collision course towards the earth. There was a movie also about 2012, when the Mayan calendar is supposed to end, and of course many other ranging from made for tv, low budget, and a some big budget blockbuster movies.

With the predictions of some about 2012, the possibilities are being made into movies. The same happened for Y2K. I know I remember other movies such as Dr Strangelove and Fail Safe from the 60s during the cold war era.

I was wondering what others thought was the reason for the propensity to dwell on our ultimate demise, or an apocalyptic future as in some other futuristic movies as the Matrix? Do you watch these movies and why do you like or dislike them?

Sci Fi Channel Changing To SyFy Channel 7/7/09 - What does this mean?

I have been watching the Sci Fi Channel today for the annual 4th of July Twilight Zone Marathon and I have been seeing a bunch of commercials advertising that the Sci Fi Channel is changing to the "SyFy Channel" on July 7, 2009. I wonder exactly what this means.

I did some investigating as this peaked my curiosity. It appears that the Sci Fi network is wanting to change its "nerdy" image and be more youthful and hip. They targeted a group of 18 to 34 year olds and passed the name "SyFy" to them. They loved it, saying SyFy is actually is how you’d text it in a conversation or text message.

The channel is making the name change on 7/7/09 and is also launching the new series “Warehouse 13” the same day. They also stated that the international Sci Fi channels will transition to the new "SyFy" name over the next six to twelve months. The website www.SciFi.com also will make the change to www.Syfy.com.

Personally, I think this is a rather stupid idea. I like the name "Sci Fi" Channel. I don't like SyFy. It is more phonetic as opposed to actually representing the actual words "Science Fiction". I feel as though they are "dumbing it down" for the general public.

So what do you think of this change? I mean as far as I'm concerned, the only people who truly watch the Sci Fi Channel are the geeky, nerdy people. They really aren't the teenage crowd that visit the mall and text their "BFF's".

Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Syfy ....

I dont know about you, but I dont see any real difference. The station has gone by the name Sci Fi for 16 years now so why all of the sudden ruin it by changing the I's to Y's?

According to the site I read, they want to get away from the nerdy image that the Sci Fi (short for science fiction) name bring up, Tim Brooks, who helped launch the channel said "The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games" (I dont know about you, but I dont even have a basement).

They are hoping the name change will attract the general public and especialy the female audience.

Do any of you think the name change will change the way people think about them, since the new name is so close to the original one? If so, why?
