The last time I was in this situation I had a thousand more and ended up getting a 2000 Ford Taurus. Well, that didn't work out too great. The darn thing went out 6 months after I got it. Anyway, I just sold it. I have another vehicle (a motorcycle) that I'm hoping to sell so that I'll have the money to get something reliable that'll get my family and I around. The only question is, what to get?

(I don't want to make payments so that pretty much limits me to an older car, van, or suv.)

If you needed to buy a used vehicle and were on a budget, what would you get and why?

Used or new?

Do you/will you buy a new or used car?

mother or car

i had 5,000 dollars and i give 4,500 of it to my mother, i want a used car, what should i do?

How Old is your CAr?

hi mylotters!

I couldn't drive the dang thing, because it kept stalling out all the time and I lost confidence in it. The thing was a real boat to drive.

Well, my son in law just informed me he is looking for a car for me. He has his eye on a 1993 Pontiac Aztec that is in very good shape. There is also a mini-van too he is looking at. He and my daughter are going away in August on their yearly anniversary vacation. He doesn't want me here without a car.

He also wants me to have wheels, so that if my daughter wants to work, I can take her to her job, and he can pick her up. It's not going to be a new vehicle, by any means... but I will be happy to be driving again. I hate having to wait on my a ride. So maybe in a week or two I may be getting a car.

I'm kind of pumped that I will have wheels again. I don't go many places, but I do love being able to come and go when I want to. How about you? Do you like having the convenience of having a vehicle?

New car or used car

New car more expensive than used car. Tax expensive, plus the cost to make up (or additional accessories), such as changing tires, change rim of wheel, change wheel, sound systems, etc.. But a little maintenance and service costs, is not problematic for at least until 3 years. In addition, the new car to increase prestige.

Price and tax used car cheaper. Accessories not need to add or change the tires, or rim of wheel, sound systems, etc.. But if you choose wrong, can issue a lot of cost for service and maintenance.

So, would you select?

Buying a smaller car may not save money

With the gas prices rising and rising it seems that it may be cheaper to buy a car that gets very high gas mileage. I found out last night that that may not be the case. A local car dealership is having a fantastic sale on cars so we thought we'd go check it out, try to save some money.

Right now I own a SUV that gets 18mpg, the gas costs me about $233/month. I have no car payment and would not trade it in, but keep it. Except for insurance, it will cost me nothing to keep it, and I wont get very much on a trade-in.

If I buy a cheap, small car - the next smallest one the dealership has, I will get great gas mileage, about 33mpg, which will cost me about $127/month. That's over $100/month less. BUT, I'll have a car paymet since I don't have the cash to buy another car right now. Unless I can get the payments under $100/month, it will cost me MORE to buy a car with better gas mileage.

Now, I know that buying the smaller car is better for the environment and all that, but with the rising prices of EVERYTHING right now I have to watch my cash going out each month pretty tightly.

Of course, if gas prices rise to $7/gallon as they are saying, and I could get the monthly payments less than $185/month it will be worth it to me. Now I just have to decide if this is a gamble I'm willing to take? They said 2 years ago that gas would be $5/gallon and that still hasn't happened here yet. We may not see $7/gallon for another 2 years and it would not be cost effective for me to buy an economical car.

Would you buy the new car or just keep driving the same one?

Would you buy a used car from a dealer or privately?

I'm going back to Australia next week, and need to buy a used car immediately. I don't know whether to go to a dealer, or buy from a private person. What would you do?
Each option has bebnefits. Firstly by buying privately, I would save a fair bbit of money. But, there is no warranty, and no guarantee of title.
If however, I buy from a dealer, he guarantees the title, and gives one year warranty. As I'm not lookinh at paying a lot of money, I think a dealer is the best option. Help me please, I'd like to hear what you think.

Or is new better?

I would, and have. My family currently owns 2 used vehicles. We bought them out right. It has certainly saved us money. Not having that monthly car payment has been a blessing more than once. A good friend of mine recently spent $26,000 on a new van. Is this an expense you would undertake? Do you have a problem buying a used car?

What is better, the used one or the brand new one?

Hi mylotters!!!My husband want to buy a car next year, but i am thinking what is better. If we're going to buy the used one which is practical and much cheaper or the brand new, that i know that we cant afford to cash it,maybe installment. And i know that this would be my headache on how to manage my bills monthly.
